Gunpoint Is Out!

After three years of working in my weekends, Gunpoint is out! Try it first, then if it works OK and you like it, buy it below!

Button_Demo

What are these fancy editions?

They’re fancy! You can get all three from Steam or from here, and you can upgrade to any of them later. Here are the details!

StandardHat
Gunpoint: Special Edition
  • Gunpoint: a 2D stealth game about rewiring things and punching people.
  • The Soundtrack: includes all of the game’s noir-inspired spy music in high quality MP3 format.
  • Developer Commentary:
when enabled, you’ll find little sprites of Gunpoint’s developers on
every mission. Talk to us to hear a little about our thinking behind the
design (Tom), the art (John), and the music (Ryan). Caution: shooting a
developer while he’s talking ends his current commentary track. This
    kills the developer.

StandardHat
Gunpoint: Exclusive Edition
  • Gunpoint: a 2D stealth game about rewiring things and punching people.
  • The Soundtrack: includes all of the game’s noir-inspired spy music in high quality MP3 format.
  • Developer Commentary:
when enabled, you’ll find little sprites of Gunpoint’s developers on
every mission. Talk to us to hear a little about our thinking behind the
design (Tom), the art (John), and the music (Ryan). Caution: shooting a
developer while he’s talking ends his current commentary track. This
    kills the developer.
  • The Making Of Gunpoint: a
40-minute video feature taking you through how Gunpoint developed from a
one-room test game to what you play today. Featuring Gunpoint’s
designer playing his earliest prototypes for the first time since they
were made, to great personal embarrassment and shame.
  • The Prototype Pack (Windows only): play
snapshots of Gunpoint’s development at 9 different stages, including
cartoony programmer art, the first conception of the hacking system,
many scrapped levels, and overpowered gadgets we later cut. For
hopefully obvious reasons, we can’t give technical support for these.
  • 4 Exclusive Tracks: bonus
pieces produced specially by Gunpoint’s composers for this edition,
mixing the game’s noir style with electronic influences. Since they’re
not used as background music in the game, our composers took the chance
to be more adventurous with these tracks.
  • The Secret Beta Access List (Windows only):
adds an option in the game menu to sign up to our Secret Beta Access
List. If and when future Suspicious Developments games are developed,
we’ll sometimes give secret beta versions only to the members of this
    list.

Special Edition Extras

If you already have the base game, you can buy the extras from these editions separately:

Exclusive Edition Extras

Note! The Exclusive Extras don’t include the Special Extras, they’re separate.

Have some facts!

  • The main story takes most people about 3 hours to play through once.
  • You can replay any mission you’ve already completed with whatever
gadgets you currently have, to try to earn different ratings for
avoiding violence, kills, noise, witnesses, etc.
  • All editions come with the level editor, which is now integrated with the Steam Workshop if you’re playing on Steam.

Thanks so much to everyone who’s already bought it. I have been hurled across the room by your generosity, crushed against the wall by your enthusiasm, and stamped into a broken heap by your support. It’s the good kind of heap.

Jakub:

Congrats! I’ve been reading your DevBlog for a while and it must feel great to finally reach this point :) I only just announced a release date for my own game as well (Postmortem: http://postmortemgame.com) so seeing a fellow indie dev’s project come to fruition is so inspirational :D

Mark:

Great game, but too short!
Maybe you could add a place here with user-created levels?

PS! – playing it in Ubuntu-linux under wine and it works like a charm!

peep911:

meow

peep911:

Now if this only had multiplayer…

Andrei:

Congratulations on a great game and greetings from Ia?i, Romania! Keep up the good work!

w0rp:

Congrats on finishing your game! You have my moral and financial support. This makes me feel like actually working on my own game a little more.

Chris:

Hi, I’ve got the special edition on steam – is there any way to upgrade to some of the specialer editions?

frankwillaims:

Fantastic dude. Long time fan here, so happy you finished this. Just played through it all the way, it’s great. I really hope you actually make enough money to become a game designer or something similar – you’re probably my favorite games journalist ever and you have a really good insight into how games work, and what makes them good instead of bad. That outside perspective is something quite a few developers lack, and sometimes it shows. Best of luck dude, hope this really takes off!

CampbellP:

Great game, I love it. For some reasons I can’t replay the levels i have beaten. Am I doing it wrong? If so, how do I do it properly?

L4R63N7:

Excellent Game! I’ve been looking forward to it for a long time now. I knew it would be awesome and you did not disappoint. It is a bit short, but I have a feeling the level editor will make up for that. A section on the site for user made levels would be great. I can’t wait to see what else you may have planned for the future.

Jabberwok:

Incredible job on the trailer. I’m even more excited for an eventual Mac release.

Dave:

Just finished this today, fantastic game, thank you

Jesus:

This was an extremely fun game it was clever, witty, and amusing. My only problem was…. It was waaaay too short. Maybe some DLC or a sequel? Good job on it anyway.

(Also, in my opinion too overpriced for something too short. Don’t get mad.)

Jason L:

Shrug. You were advised of its length before you put your money down. Perhaps you can”t read.

I’m holding off on any bug reports and suggestions for improvement until a proper tracker or forum happens, not least because you probably already know about anything I’ve thought of. I will put down one thing: either the post-mission money bar is a bizarre design misstep or I don’t understand it at all. Horizontal bars – as with the rest on that screen – usually represent an optimization situation, to be filled or emptied. In addition, bars of any kind – as with the rest on that screen – almost invariably represent some metric you can affect. You can’t optimise your pay on a mission because you can’t affect it in any way, per the tooltip. It communicates a lot of false implication for very little actual information; I’d either cut it entirely or replace it with an addition equation.

Justin:

i recomended this game to all my friends and i dont even own it… cuz im a mac which makes me sad but i thot hey ill let my frends enjoy the shear awesomeness

ciw1973:

Really wanted to play this, but I’m only run Mac and Linux boxes these days, so I bought it anyway, and I can confirm that it installed and seems to works absolutely fine on Linux under Wine.

Jake:

I just bought this on the strength of the demo, but I nearly gave up from the hassle – the demo redirected me to steam with the ‘buy game’ link, but Steam failed to take my PayPal payment three times and it took almost as long to even get to the point where I could write them a support request as it did to make those three attempts.

The link on your site worked first time, of course – after I went looking for it! Is there any reason not to direct people to that from in-game instead of Steam?

GUNnibal:

Bought the game on Steam, enjoying the hell out of it. You, guys, are awesome!

Your newly acquired Russian fan

P.S. You can thank Tim Buckley (http://www.cad-comic.com/cad/20130603/#n2465) for mentioning it, I’d have probably missed the game otherwise.

LeyendaV:

Bought the Exclusive Edition on Steam, worth every cent. Can’t wait for your new projects!

Keep working guys, you made a truly amazing job!

Breegull:

Really fun game! The levels are puzzling yet not a stupid amount that you have to rip your face off. The game play is simple and fun. The humour was pretty damn funny. Loved it!

Cameron:

Hi, I bought this game off of steam and at first it wasn’t looking good because it crashed upon start up. Then I downloaded the no music beta but then there was no music which I would assume took a big part out of the game. Then I beat the game very quickly with little difficulty. After that I went to the steam workshop and tried downloaded some user made levels but they never showed up after I subscribed to them please try to help me with this problem.

Adnan:

Awesome game!
And now, has support Steam Workshop!!

Not you:

I like this game and I got the exclusive edition for about 4 quid too!

Tom Francis:

Hey Cameron! If you haven’t already, could you e-mail michiel.player@abstractiongames.com with as much info about your computer’s specs and the original crashing problem?

The ‘no music’ beta is an older version of the game from before we had Steam Workshop support, so that’ll be why the maps aren’t showing up. It’s useful to know that it works for you, but hopefully we should be able to get the current version of the game working for you too!

john:

if there was a place to rate it I would give it a +10

Cleverness:

Finished the game, really enjoyed it! Wish it was longer or had more missions to do after the main story as its very fun to play and the music is great, but for the price on the Steam sale I can’t really complain, got alot of bang for those bucks. Enjoyed myself and look forward to whatever possible future projects you may be working on!

pol2381:

hi ? have bought this game in a Bundle offer but I never can play it because the game crashes. Can you help me with that? there is a mail where I can send you the screen error?. I just try to uninstall and install again but crashes anyway.

Cheers

Mateus Reze:

Hey! I’m having a little problem with Steam Achievements… It says Gunpoint has 42 achievements, but only 35 are shown.
Is that a common issue? Is that a Steam issue? I NEED ANSWERS
(By the way, your game probably is the best game i’ve played this year)

TomSka:

Best strategy game ever

I have bought this on a different computer, not on steam but on this website. Is there another way to get it back or do I have to rebuy the game :(

Jason L:

Look in your email that you bought it with. You’ll have received a message from Humble Store when you bought it. The link in that message stays good; go to it again to redownload or get updated versions.

Who do I get in contact with about a refund. I don’t really fancy keeping the game as I don’t have enough time to play it and I’m finding the technical too much of an issue to deal with. Sorry to be a miserable customer.

Only just got around to playing this. Congrats on a very innovative and enjoyable game with a great sense of humour. Watched your episode on Super Game Jam…was interesting to see your creative process at work. All the best.

Patrick S:

this game is so great. being a fan of jazz i especially went for the soundtrack. the shift in music from regular to crosslink usage is great as well. I happily spent the money on the exclusive edition especially with the discounted price. the dialogue is well done and funny too.

TimTam:

Great game! I started earlier this afternoon and finished it in one sitting; very addictive. I agree it’s on the short side but at least it’s very replayable and the level editor is nice a nice touch. Thanks and well done!

Axem Black:

Hey, saw some development for gunpoint a while back and then finally bought the game on steam recently. Finished the game and I really enjoyed it. I wish it was longer, but I believe it’s much better to have a game leaving you wanting more than killing it with unnecessary elements or sequels.

I loved all elements, the gameplay, the plot and unique story telling elements, loved the pixel art and the wonderful city drops. And the music was such an incredible atmosphere. The differences between the regular and crosslink songs were really well done.

I got the special edition with the soundtrack and the developer commentary. It was a really good experience and I wanted to say that playing through it and then hearing about the experience of making it through the commentary has kind of reignited my dream of working on games myself, and that most of all is what I want to thank you for.

If this is too long and you have to delete it, that’s fine but please tell me where I can post it/e-mail this message so the whole team gets my thanks for a great experience.

EgyptSynapse:

A few bugs: On the mac version, the Iphone dialog before levels isn’t showing up. The music is also absent.
Sometimes enemies shoot me through windows without the window breaking.
Thanks!

One of the most hilarious game I ever played, and don’t even get me started on the game itself. A true jewel.

Looking forward for more games from you !

UFO:

Damn, big props to the developer, this was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. Seriously I didn’t enjoy some of the AAA titles as much as I enjoyed this. I’m looking forward to more stuff like this. Keep up the good work!

Is it possible for me to get a copy of this game for my youtube channel?
I’m looking to try something new cause I’ve had people in the comments asking for something new, so I thought i’d give it to them! Trying to expand my gameplay, I guess you could say. And I was wondering if I could get a key for steam, or something of that nature, and it would be amazing. If you want to reply, please email me as it’s almost impossible to contact me on youtube. Just incase you wanna check out the channel, here’s the link!

Dear Gunpoint team,
I have just finished the game and I’d like to offer my most sincere thanks! Congratulations on a fantastic job. I had a lot of fun playing Gunpoint. Besides the creative gameplay mechanics and stylized graphics, I especially enjoyed the humor and the soundtrack. Please keep up the good work. Have a very nice X-mas and a happy New Year!

Jacob:

This was a amazing game for such a cheap price on steam. i just beat the game and im going to do a re run

Jeff Davis:

This game..holy crap man. Tom, if you still read these, you are an amazing developer. Thank you for this amazing game! (Loved Floating Point as well :P)

Jackson:

This has to be one of my favorite games ever. You did a great job and I hope that if you all have time you will make another, even if it means waiting a few years at least. Thanks for making this!

Jabba:

Seems a bit overpriced for 3 hours of gameplay but I’ll try it out anyway

Conrad:

Brilliant game. The fact that you put together such a complete and impactful product in GameMaker is really inspiring to wannabe developers such as myself!

so good:

C’mon Richard, now Melanie is single..

well, at least he has the ability to kick doors

AM:

This game was fantastic, a little hard but enjoyable.

Kittygames:

This game was so good that right after I finished I reset and started again. The only thing that bothers me is the price. I bought it on sale for $2.50 which is a price I would have paid twice for this game, however because it normally costs $10 I do have to say that that is a little too much. I think $6 would be more reasonable…

Chrydin:

Great game, definitely worth the $. Great story&Music, don’t know why others complain about the price?

RottenPotato:

AAA game devs need learn from you. I’m not mind spending money on this game and honest, its better than any AAA games nowadays.

Great music, awesome gameplay, cool storyline and… i can’t describe it too much.

Luke:

Great game! I wish that the story was a bit longer. It was good, but *more game play please!!* (not community levels)

Pat Poitras:

Game is pretty fun, I would like a sequel.

oxycuntout:

i love you

Jake:

Probably one of the best games I’ve played in years.

Stephen Kissane:

Dear Gunpoint Team,

I’m contacting you as I am organising a charity game tournament with full proceeds to go to Cancer Research UK.

I loved your game Gunpoint, and was wondering if you might be interested in donating some keys to be given away as prizes as part of the tournament.

If you are please contact me at sxk634@hotmail.com and I will email you with further details.

Thank you for your time,

Steve.

Ole:

Greetings from Denmark! Best game EVER!!! Please make a sequel!? The Soundtrack is without a doubt, the best Soundtrack i’ve ever heard in a game, i absolutely LOVE IT!

Message:

Quite frankly, I don’t know what to make of this game. The storyline and music were some notable parts, and the missions could be quite challenging at times. Fortunately for me, I’m experienced at this type of thing. Adding the option to import user levels, this game is amusing and charming.

P.S. Do you know where I can find these “Bullfrog Trousers”? They might come in handy.

P.P.S. 5 seconds after reading this message, this message will self-destruct, then your computer will explode, then an automated plane will bomb whatever building you are in right now. I apologize for the overkill, and thank you for your time.

P.P.S. Speaking of overkill, I punched a guard a few hundred times. Thank you for implementing that feature.

Brian:

It would be great to continue the game´s story with other contacts. More story missions, please! Jajaaja

Bendik Flogard:

Hi, I’m a huge fan of Gunpoint, and I’m wondering if you could help me out by taking a survey for me. I’m a student at NTNU University in Norway, and I’m doing a project where I’m trying to collect some data regarding user involvement in game development. I would be very thankful if you could help me out :)
It shouldn’t take too long, and if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Jesus didn’t mean what he said, I had a talk to him and he agreed that it was perfectly good considering he was forewarned here the campaign is roughly 3 hours long, one person designed the whole thing, and there is steam workshop support to extend playtime. Sorry Tom.

i love gunpoint but im waiting for heat signature it seems awesome and really want a copy of the open beta but i dont mind waiting for it to come out
